“If you want to make it in this career, you have to work harder and smarter than everyone else. It's the intersection of skill, hard work and good luck that create the best opportunities for you. Always be honing your skill and focusing on your work ethic. It will never steer you wrong.”
Tom knew early on he was mechanically inclined. He was fascinated by understanding how things work and at the age of 12, decided to completely disassemble his father's motorcycle to "see how it worked." Lucky for Tom, he reassembled it and found that it actually still worked. He realized then that he'd found his calling in the mechanical trades.
Tom started early in his career initially working for an electrical contractor (his dad was a Union electrician). After picking up custom metal plates from a large Mechanical Contractor, Tom saw firsthand the nature of the work and the very next day, began the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship process. Tom learned and moved up quickly in the trade and was running projects while still an apprentice. Fast-forward 30 years, and Tom has established himself as a local expert in the field, working on some of the most iconic buildings in the Bay Area, including the SAP Center.
